VOTE FOR A SIMPLE, COMMON-SENSE UPDATE
ONE STANDARD FOR KNOXVILLE ELECTIONS
Voting FOR the election question on your November ballot gives Knoxville voters a simpler, fairer way to choose their leaders. If a candidate for City Council wins a majority of the vote in August, they win. If no candidate earns a majority, the top two advance to a November runoff.
The proposal avoids requiring another election after voters have already made a decisive choice, but keeps a second election when it is needed.
Simple rules. Clear Results.
HOW IT WORKS
Knoxville already uses this rule for electing Mayor and Municipal Judge. Passing the amendment would apply the same rule to City Council.
Same Elections. One Standard.
WHAT CHANGES
A Cleaner, More Consistent Election Process.
WHY IT MATTERS
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
“This Charter amendment is long overdue. We should have one clear majority standard for City elections and make the rules easier for voters to understand. Knoxville already uses this standard for Mayor and Municipal Judge, and City Council elections should follow the same common-sense rule. I believe it can increase voter turnout, and it will save taxpayers time and money. That’s good for voters and good for our community.”
